Radon Testing
Our radon tests are conducted according to EPA
protocol. The test takes 48 hours and requires that the windows and doors
in the vicinity of the radon monitor be used minimally, if at all. The
test costs $175 and you will be given a report with the test results and
recommendations for further action if necessary. The price includes
monitor drop-off and pick-up drive time anywhere in the Atlanta metro
area, covering Fulton, Cobb, Dekalb, Gwinnett, Forsyth, Cherokee, Douglas,
Fayette, and Clayton
Counties.
EPA Recommends
- All
homes in the U.S. should be tested for radon.
-
Remediation is recommended if your radon level is 4
picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher.
- Radon levels
below 4 pCi/L still present some
risk, and in many cases may be reduced.
U.S. EPA Assessment of Risks from Radon
in Homes
The EPA
estimates that more than 20,000 annual deaths are radon
related. The EPA also concluded that the effects of radon and
cigarette smoking are synergistic, meaning smokers are at much higher
risk from radon exposure. The EPA's statements are based on the National
Academy of Science's 1999 BEIR IV Report which states conclusively
that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after
smoking. For more about Radon, visit

SURGEON GENERAL HEALTH ADVISORY:
"Indoor radon is the second-leading
cause of lung cancer in the United States and breathing it over
prolonged periods can present a significant health risk to
families all over the country. It's important to know that this
threat is completely preventable. Radon can be detected with a
simple test and fixed through well-established venting
techniques." January 2005
